Dear Parents,

Thank you for playing Cool School, we hope you and your child have found it to be educational, rewarding, and entertaining. Cool School was developed to teach young children valuable skills in conflict resolution. Unfortunately not every child, in every school, gets the opportunity to use a computer. We recognize this and want to provide you with as much information and support as we can so that whenever your child has the opportunity, at home, at school, or anywhere, to play and learn from Cool School, we can make the most of it.

First a little about us and what we seek to gain: Peace. It’s really that simple. Cool School is not for sale and we are not a commercial venture. Cool School was developed with taxpayer funding through the federal government, which means by law we cannot make money from it. Through the gracious contributions of commercial and philanthropic organizations we’ve created a free, safe, and fun environment for kids to learn valuable skills. Never the less, we recognize that teaching a child is a team effort that starts with you, the parent.

Our primary concern is the safety and privacy of your child, and because of that we are open and transparent with our motives and opportunities in Cool School. As your child plays Cool School several anonymous data points will be collected. As researchers, educators, and technology developers are desperately need these data points to help us make better games. Therefore, as your child plays Cool School the software will anonymously monitor the following data points:

At the beginning the player is asked for their age and gender. This is complete voluntary and may be answered in part or skipped entirely. If answered this data is recorded as a Google Analytic in two columns, age and gender. This helps us to show others, such as parents, educators, and funding organizations which age and gender groups are playing. It also helps us to see which ages and genders might not be playing, so we can better include those groups in future versions.

During the game we also collect:

How long the game has been played?

How far did the player get into the game?

How long did the player take to answer questions or spend on scenarios?

Did the player complete the game?

Again these data points are anonymously recorded in a Google Analytic database. We never record your Internet Protocol (IP) address, player name, or any other personal information. We take your child’s safety and security seriously.

If you would like to learn more about the data we collect and how please refer to our privacy policy. If you have any questions or would like to learn how you can help us to make Cool School better, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for playing Cool School and helping to promote peace.
